I did when it came out. Now I don’t. I like that its unabashedly slow and comfy. I mean, whats wrong with comfy? I like that its much smaller than you would think (seriously, stand next to one, the trunk lid comes up to your knees only). I like that its built on very reliable panther LS bones. I don’t even hate most of the styling.

No sir, I don’t hate that this car exists at all.

It’s retro done mostly right, I don’t mind these at all.

Its built off of S-type bones, no panther here.

What LongbowMkII said, there isn’t a shred of Panther in one of those things. It’s mostly a Lincoln LS underneath.

ah, quite right. So it was a lincoln LS not towncar. my mistake. Still reliable.

The big problem is Ford half assed it.

The exterior looks retro, but the interior is bland.

And the 3.9L V8 was “adequate” when they should have had something better.

Adequate is fine with me. Its not meant to be a sportscar, just a gentle homage to the former cruiser.

That must have been a hell of a driveway to lay.

But if they are gonna play homage to the original, they should have done something more inspired than this for the interior

Ever driven one? Just awful. I’m 5,10 and barely fit. Cramped, jerky, and slow.

Cool thing is that values for these are following the Allante/TC trend, no worries about huge price gains for mint cars, so you can get one and drive it.

I like that its built on very reliable panther LS S-Type bones.

FTFY

I love these. Off all of the retro cars of the late 90s-early 00s, this and the S-Type are the only ones I’d own.

S type is LS, LS is S type

True, but the DEW platform and the Jag engineering that went into it was the first time Ford actually got anything back out of all of the money that they had sunk into Jag in the 90s. Plus the engine is a modified Jag AJ-V8.

Yea I agree, not a bad look. It’s just one of those cars that has stuck out in my mind as particularly bad to drive. I only drove one once, as a valet. As soon I sat in it I thought, “well the seat has to go back farther..” Nope!

I’m the opposite. I liked them when they came out, but they haven’t aged well.

It’s like any other American luxobarge really. The Thunderpidgeon just gets a lot of flak because it’s misrepresenting what the original T-Bird stood for (see Regular Car Reviews’ Chevy HHR review for more on that).

But it’s still a usable car I guess, even if it’s a step backwards from this imo.

Yeah, I did always like those. They got a bit of a bad rap, I think because the interior wasn’t really nice enough to fit the personal luxury feel (much like the early S-Types), and the retro styling was rather polarizing.

From what I remember, Ford had each one of their studios around the world present their idea for the new Thunderbird, and the Italian and Japanese ones were really attractive and modern, but they went with the American retro proposal. The Italian one probably would have had more staying power.
